Today the Create React App team is launching our Open Collective. Create React App has been a community maintained project for the last few years and we need your help to keep the project running. That help can come in many forms: filing bug reports, answering questions on GitHub Discussions, submitting PRs and now direct financial support through Open Collective.

Isn’t Create React App a Facebook Project?

Create React App was originally created by Dan Abramov, who is a member of the React core team at Facebook. However, the project has been maintained by the community for the last few years. Facebook still hosts our GitHub repo and provides us with some additional support like branding and domain registration. Dan still contributes to the project occasionally too but there is no one at Facebook who is paid to work on Create React App. None of the money collected through Open Collective will be used to pay any Facebook employees.

What are we going to use this money for?

Here are some of the ideas that we have for how to use the money donated to this Open Collective:

  1. Paying contributors. Other projects have had success with this model and we’re considering trying it too, depending on the amount of funding we receive.
  2. Swag! Stickers, T-shirts and maybe more. We’re considering gifting swag to contributors and/or setting up a store.
  3. Sponsoring and attending conferences to represent Create React App in the community

Donate Today

Thank you to everyone in the community for all your support over the years. We hope that if you or your company use Create React App you’ll consider donating.
