About
Dear Block Girl is a collective, curated by the women from Tha Block Trenton, to guide marginalized women, girls, and femmes across the Trenton and greater Trenton community in their healing paths through providing: sacred spaces to connect and inspire, tools for activism and advocacy, and a supplemental creative outlet and resource guide.
This project was informed by the complex experiences amongst Black/Latinx womxn, girls, and femmes in the city of Trenton and the importance of acknowledging these experiences to foster community amongst us.
Our Mission:
The goal for Dear Block Girl is to increase the presence of Black/Latinx women led safe spaces within the Trenton community and to cultivate a sense of connection, support, and advocacy in our experiences.
- A network of support and connections
- Access to resources and tools to support mental health and holistic wellness
- Empowerment through critical pedagogy

Background:
Dear Block Girl is rooted in the ideals of womanism, which brings light to the complex experiences, conditions, and concerns of Black/Latinx women. The project also sheds light on the community need for Black/Latinx women led and centered outlets to share positive images, common experiences, and empowering stories. Dear Block Girl advocates for Black/Latinx women and girls to perpetuate their own agenda by living an authentic life filled with self-love, active support of each other, and the constant seeking of knowledge to bridge the educational and spiritual gaps across the African Diaspora.
Initiatives:
Dear Block Girl: Healing and Liberation Guide - a sacred guide that will serve as a resource and means to connect, heal, and advocate for the Black women in our community. In its annual distribution, the guide will include stories and poems, works of art, podcasts and shows, healing practices, and tools for activism and advocacy, that are not only authored and created by Black/Latinx women from Trenton, but are for Black/Latinx women in Trenton.
Block Girl Highlight Series and Discussions - a video series in which we uplift individuals from the Trenton community and their respective talents/outlets discuss relevant topics such as sisterhood, community, healing, and activism.
Outreach and Community Engagement - curated spaces in which Trenton community members and residents will engage with the Dear Block Girl vision to bring further awareness to the healing and liberation guide. These initiatives include: arts (open mic night and kids sip & paint), Holistic health and wellness (yoga in the park), and Tha Block Girl Garden Party (healing and liberation guide launch party where physical copies of the guide will be distributed)
