Sukkot Fundraiser for Right Relationship Boulder

Join us for Sukkot at Ekar farm where we will gather for food, lulav making from local plants, singing and ritual.

Sunday, October 20, 2024, 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM (UTC-06:00)
Fiscal Host: Denver Doikayt

About

This year, Denver Doikayt is hosting a Sukkot fundraiser for Right Relationship Boulder's Cheyenne & Arapaho Culture Enrichment Experience, which will provide the opportunity for Cheyenne and Araphaho elders and youth to share ancestral knowledge about their homeland. More on this program below.

On Sunday, October 20 from 1-4 pm, join us at EKAR farm for an afternoon of Sukkot celebration, solidarity, community, song, food, and more. EKAR is hosting a workday that morning from 9 am - 1 pm and we encourage you to join us at that as well!

This event is a fundraiser. We ask that people make a meaningful (whatever that means to you) financial contribution. However, we also want this event to be accessible to all who would like to participate. If a financial contribution is a barrier to participation for you, please contact us at [email protected] so we can get you a ticket.

ABOUT RRB'S CULTURAL ENRICHMENT PROGRAM:
This program brings Cheyenne & Arapaho youth and elders back to this land that is theirs. The experience provides youth with ancestral knowledge about identifying and cutting down trees for teepee poles, setting up camp, eating traditional foods (buffalo) and native plants, observing the evening sky and identifying Arapaho/Cheyenne constellations, hearing their ancestral stories, learning plains Indian sign language, shooting with bow and arrow, making arrowheads, identifying chert and obsidian, learning names of geographical landmarks, learning about mammals, birds, reptiles, insects about their medical knowledge and sacred ceremonies.

AGENDA:
1-1:30: Gathering
1:30 - 2:30: Food & Talks from Denver Doikayt, Right Relationship Boulder, Ekar Farm, Repair the World
2:30 - 3:30: Lulav Making Workshop & Singing in the Sukkah
3:30 - 4: Closing Sukkot Ritual

GETTING THERE:
Ekar Farms (6825 E Alameda Ave) - Park on Oneida street, DO NOT park in the parking lot!

COVID GUIDELINES:
  • Please bring a mask. We plan to be outdoors and eating so we will not require them most of the time. However, if we are crowded in the sukkah, we may ask everyone to mask while in close proximity.
  • Please take a covid test before the event, and please be mindful of others' personal space.
  • If you’re not feeling well, stay home!! You can always donate to the solidarity fund instead of buying a ticket, and there will be more opportunities to connect, hear about and support this work in the future!

OTHER ACCESS INFO:
  • From Oneida street, follow the path of wood chips along the trees to the shaded structure. From the street, there are curb cuts, followed by an uneven wood chip path for about 40 yards. There is another entrance about 15 steps from where we’ll be gathering, which includes a curb, grass and a sloped entrance to the space, which is gravel. There is a porta potty which includes one step to enter, and is about 40 yards from the main area.
  • We request that you avoid wearing any scents (strong lotions or perfumes etc) for people in our community who live with chemical sensitivities / chemical injuries. For more information on fragrance-free spaces read this article by Leah Lakshmi Piepzna-Samarasinha
