APIToS Phase 2: Summary of the research + online workshop “New models for API Terms of Service”

In Phase 1 of the API Terms of Service (APIToS) research project, we interviewed API practitioners and identified key areas that can make APIToS easier to read and more understandable for healthier and more open digital infrastructures.

Phase 2 of the study consisted of running a quantitative survey. Analysis of the survey responses, alongside findings from Phase 1 interviews, helped guide the development of a prototype qualitative framework for describing API Terms of Service in a way that is understandable and readable by users, easy to produce by providers, and favors open ecosystems for policymakers.

To anchor our preliminary results and test our hypotheses with the API practitioner community, we organized  an online workshop/focus group of 20+ people working with or studying APIs. Attendees had different backgrounds (from research, industry, legal design, legal studies, and policy development) and explored, assessed, discussed, and validated the prototypes and resources developed by the research team.

Expense policies

Our payouts are processed twice a week. We will endeavor to pay within 7 days of an expense being approved by the admin of the Collective or Fund. We can usually turn payments around much sooner, but can’t guarantee that and don’t want to set that expectation. We make payments via Bank Transfer (via Wise) and can only make payouts to countries served by these payment processors.  You are not required to upload an invoice document (the data you submit in the expense form is sufficient) but if you would like to include an uploaded invoice, please make it out to: Collective name, Open Collective Foundation, 340 S LEMON AVE #3717, Walnut CA 91789 USA.

NOTE: We are not currently able to pay out expenses to Paypal accounts. You can find more info on this here. We will post an update and re-activate the option on the expense page when this is an option again.
