About
Digital Aotearoa Collective was established in 2022 to co-create an approach to public digital infrastructure for Aotearoa New Zealand, suitable for our local context and in line with mātauranga Māori. A civil society initiative to connect and welcome all people across Aotearoa New Zealand, to dream and build better futures together.
Its intention was to establish a self-governing, equitable, and shared-purpose community of doers who get on with solving problems. The initial crew included Jo Allum, Pia Andrews, Jonah Duckles, Robert O’Brien, Arama Maitara, Hamish Fraser, Tom Barraclough, Ben Tairea, Brenda Wallace, Siobhan McCarthy, and Regan Gilmour.
Many projects have been founded, supported, enhanced and grown as a result of the original people and projects, including Mātou Collective, which has now become the 'parent' of Digital Aotearoa.
If you have a project idea and would like to connect with a group of technologists in an evolving initiative focused on public digital infrastructure we'd love you to join in. We are always pleased to share our knowledge, connections, projects and the infrastructure and tools we've created. We can often make things easy to get up and running, receive and share resources, account for them properly and more, so you can get stuff done and contribute to making Aotearoa and our digital infrastructure better for all.
