While the running challenge may be over, the food crisis in the Bronx and many other parts of the city continues. I’ve partnered with East Bronx Dems, a mutual aid organization, to raise money for community fridges in the Bronx and to keep them stocked this winter and until the pandemic is over. The group is doing this in addition to grocery store gift cards and deliveries for those who cannot leave their homes. If you can afford to, please consider donating.
My name is Deirdre Keane. I am a nurse practitioner (NP), who was raised and is now living in the Bronx. The past few months, I have been dividing my time working between two pediatric ICUs, caring for both COVID and non-COVID patients as an NP and RN.
I have seen firsthand the effects of this pandemic in the hospital and outside in the Bronx community. As front line workers, we are working around the clock to give the best care to our patients. However, no one should be worried about where their family's next meal is coming from. During this time of health and economic uncertainty, food insecurity needs to be addressed in our neighborhoods.
Running has always given me so much solace and I want to use that as a means to fundraise for the community. I am pledging to run 1,000 miles in the next three months and am pledging to match each mile I run with a dollar donation.
I am asking friends and family to consider donating whatever possible too. Thank you!
