EmberConf Speaker Expense Fund
Published on April 4, 2020 by Leah Silber

Hello all!

Adding this note as documentation. It doesn't seem like there's a way to archive a Tier, versus delete, hence this.

During EmberConf, we turned on a temporary tier called the EmberConf Speaker Fund, to raise funds for expenses speakers weren't able to get reimbursed despite all travel being cancelled. It raised a total of $958.00, and expenses have been submitted to cover that amount (via Dan Monroe, James Steinbach and Ridhwana Khan facilitated by Leah Silber). There's a balance of $13.17 which I'll aim to document later when we send speaker additional Honoraria outside of OpenCollective, from Tilde Inc directly, to get us to a true $0. The tier is now gone though, so this will serve as the historical record to explain why these expenses were paid for via OpenCollective.

Thanks so much for everyone who contributed. Having the fund up helped eliminate stress for both the speakers and the organizers along the way, so we didn't need to worry about getting stuck with the bills if large travel companies weren't responsive. Luckily most of us had luck getting those refunds, and the amount raised was pretty much the perfect amount needed.
