Big updates for Open Source Europe! 🚀
Published on March 13, 2026 by Jean-François De Hertogh

Hi everyone,

A few quick updates on what's happening at Open Source Europe (OSE):

1. Welcome Lukasz!

We are thrilled to announce that Lukasz Gornicki is joining the OSE team. Many of you already know him for his incredible work in the Open Source community (notably with AsyncAPI). Lukasz will be working with us to strengthen our ecosystem across Europe and beyond.

2. We are now on Discord

To make communication easier, we’ve launched the OSE Discord server. This is now the official place for:
  • Support & Questions: Get help with your collective's admin or technical setup.
  • News & Events: Share what you’re building and stay updated on OSE initiatives.

3. Meet us at FOSS Backstage

We will be at FOSS Backstage in Berlin! If you are attending, please let us know on Discord. we’d love to meet you in person, hear about your project’s progress, and discuss how we can support you further.

Thank you for being part of this journey. Let’s keep building a stronger, open Europe together.

Best,

JF & Lukasz

Hi friends.

with all due respect to what you do, I was wondering if Discord server is OpenSource ?

My expectation for Open Source Europe (OSE) is to select an Open Source communication service and as far as I understand it, Discord is not. I would be more than glad to be wrong here and get an update from you, especially with the discord age verification backlash I was impressed on this choice.

With great respect, love and support to the cause.

Thank you.

Hi! Thanks for the message and for the support,

Discord isn’t open source, and not very European. We’ve actually had a few chats about exactly that.

The simple truth is we just needed a place to start talking and have a stage where a larger group could actually discuss these things. Discord was just the fastest way to get everyone in one spot so we could start building the communication framework for Open Source Europe.

Our goal is to work with the community to pick the tools we’re all happy with, diverse enough to accommodate people who like modern messaging or those who prefer universal email groups.

For now, Discord is just the easiest "first step" to get the ball rolling.

Thanks for the comment. It’s exactly the kind of feedback we need.

I wish you an amazing weekend.

Cheers,
Lukasz

@ebal what do you recommend?

@lukasz 💯
GitHub is not open source neither fwiw. Let’s support and privilege (European based) open source tools whenever we can but let’s also be pragmatic and meet people where they are. Let’s build bridges 😊
Anyone up to build a bridge from Discord to Nostr? (Asking for a friend) 👀Â
