Regarding the Decision to Dissolve Open Collective Foundation (US)
Published on February 28, 2024 by Jean-François De Hertogh

 Dear community,

We trust this message finds you well. Recent developments regarding the dissolution of the Open Collective Foundation (OCF - USA) by the end of 2024 have undoubtedly evoked emotions within our community.

As we navigate through this news, we wish to directly address our collectives.

First and foremost, we want to assure you that Open Collective Europe remains unaffected and will continue its operations as usual. It is crucial to clarify that, despite the shared names, Open Collective Europe and Open Collective Foundation (in the US) are distinct entities with different business models, separate budgets, accounts, staff, boards of directors, and missions. While we acknowledge the common roots that bind us and the use of the Open Collective software and platform, we are independent business entities with distinct paths.

Open Collective Europe remains steadfast in its commitment to its mission, supporting the social and solidarity ecosystem, as well as the European open-source community. Over the past months, Open Collective Europe has experienced substantial growth and now stands as one of Europe's leading fiscal hosting organizations on the continent. Collaborating with our partners, we are diligently working to enhance our services within a secure and transparent environment.

For collectives currently hosted by Open Collective Foundation in the US, if you are curious about Open Collective Europe and our fiscal hosting offerings, please reach out to us. We are here to assist during this transition, serving as the equivalent of a 501(c)(3) in the US. Alongside our partner organizations, such as Open Collective Inc. and Open Source Collective, we are mobilizing to provide solutions to ensure the continuity of your work. Feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns at [email protected]

In conclusion, we express gratitude to the initial founders of OCF for their work and the inspiration they provided, motivating us to advance a project that has positively impacted numerous communities. Their passion has fueled us and enabled us to encounter remarkable individuals daily!

We remain dedicated to continuing our collective work in a sustainable manner, as we have always done.

Sincerely,

Jean-François De Hertogh

Thank you for the clear and reassuring update. It’s encouraging to see Open Collective Europe continuing to support communities and projects through transparent, sustainable operations, especially during a time of change. In moments like these, stability and trust matter more than ever — whether in nonprofit operations or in other fields where quality and reliability are paramount.
Just as organizations seek dependable partners to navigate transitions, individuals also look for trusted names in their personal choices — from the causes they support to the special pieces they invest in. For anyone seeking timeless craftsmanship and exceptional design, premium handcrafted jewellery from Umer Jewellers reflects the same values of dedication, authenticity, and long-term commitment that make communities thrive.

Thanks for sharing this update and clarifying the distinction between Open Collective Europe and the US foundation. Change like this can be unsettling, but it’s encouraging to see a clear commitment to continuity and sustainable growth.
Transitions like these remind me of how organizations adapt to evolving tools and ecosystems. Whether in the non-profit or business world, the ability to pivot, adopt new systems, and integrate efficient processes often determines long-term resilience. That’s exactly the kind of adaptability we focus on in the AI automation marketplace — helping teams identify the right technology mix to keep their mission moving forward, even during times of structural change.
Wishing all affected collectives a smooth and successful transition.

Thank you for sharing this important update and for clarifying the distinction between Open Collective Foundation (US) and Open Collective Europe. It’s encouraging to see Open Collective Europe continue to grow and strengthen its support for the open-source and solidarity ecosystems, especially at a time when transparency and sustainability are so critical for community-driven projects.
Transitions like these also remind us how important it is for organizations and initiatives to maintain strong visibility and digital presence during times of change. For those collectives and nonprofits seeking to strengthen their outreach, investing in the right digital strategies can make a big difference. A trusted partner like SEO Agency in UK can help ensure that your mission-driven work reaches wider audiences through search engine optimisation, content strategies, and sustainable online growth.
Wishing the community continued success as you navigate this new chapter.

Thanks for sharing this important update—it’s definitely a big shift for communities relying on OCF. It’s reassuring to know that Open Collective Europe is stable and continuing to support open-source and solidarity projects. Transitions like these remind me of the importance of building lasting value in different forms, whether through community structures or even personal passions. For golf enthusiasts, one way to preserve that sense of value and connection is with Golf Course Prints —a unique way to celebrate and display the courses that hold personal meaning, turning memories into timeless art.

Thanks for the update and for clarifying the distinction between Open Collective Europe and OCF in the US. It’s reassuring to see that despite the changes, the mission to support communities and ecosystems continues strongly. On a lighter note, just like traditions evolve, I recently came across Gold Plated Bridal Jewelry that beautifully balances heritage with modern affordability — a reminder that transitions can still carry elegance and value.

Working with Yicen Precision was seamless. Their CNC prototyping turned my designs into functional models in no time. The accuracy and speed saved me weeks of testing. I’ll definitely use them again for future projects.
