Regarding the Decision to Dissolve Open Collective Foundation (US)
Published on February 28, 2024 by Jean-François De Hertogh
Dear community,
We trust this message finds you well. Recent developments regarding the dissolution of the Open Collective Foundation (OCF - USA) by the end of 2024 have undoubtedly evoked emotions within our community.
As we navigate through this news, we wish to directly address our collectives.
First and foremost, we want to assure you that Open Collective Europe remains unaffected and will continue its operations as usual. It is crucial to clarify that, despite the shared names, Open Collective Europe and Open Collective Foundation (in the US) are distinct entities with different business models, separate budgets, accounts, staff, boards of directors, and missions. While we acknowledge the common roots that bind us and the use of the Open Collective software and platform, we are independent business entities with distinct paths.
Open Collective Europe remains steadfast in its commitment to its mission, supporting the social and solidarity ecosystem, as well as the European open-source community. Over the past months, Open Collective Europe has experienced substantial growth and now stands as one of Europe's leading fiscal hosting organizations on the continent. Collaborating with our partners, we are diligently working to enhance our services within a secure and transparent environment.
For collectives currently hosted by Open Collective Foundation in the US, if you are curious about Open Collective Europe and our fiscal hosting offerings, please reach out to us. We are here to assist during this transition, serving as the equivalent of a 501(c)(3) in the US. Alongside our partner organizations, such as Open Collective Inc. and Open Source Collective, we are mobilizing to provide solutions to ensure the continuity of your work. Feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns at [email protected]
In conclusion, we express gratitude to the initial founders of OCF for their work and the inspiration they provided, motivating us to advance a project that has positively impacted numerous communities. Their passion has fueled us and enabled us to encounter remarkable individuals daily!
We remain dedicated to continuing our collective work in a sustainable manner, as we have always done.
Sincerely,
Jean-François De Hertogh
