Update to fundraising features on Open Source Europe

Dear Open Source Europe community,
We’d like to share a small update to some fundraising features on Open Source Europe.
We’d like to share a small update to some fundraising features on Open Source Europe.
To make fundraising simpler to manage and to continue supporting the established ways open source initiatives use the platform, we will be making a few adjustments on 24 April.
From that date, all legacy tiers will be transformed into donation tiers, and paid tickets for events will no longer be supported. Free tickets for events will remain available, and it will still be possible to raise funds through donations in support of an event.
This change will be handled on our side, so no action is required from you.
Please review our guidelines, and contact us if you have any questions. For future events or fundraising setups, we also encourage you to get in touch with us in advance if anything is unclear.
You can reach us at [email protected].
Thank you for being part of the Open Source Europe community.

Absolutely agree. What stands out to me is that this kind of change removes friction for maintainers, especially smaller teams that don’t have time to manage complicated fundraising setups.
I also like that donations for events are still supported, even if paid tickets are being phased out. That keeps the fundraising path open while making the system simpler and easier to understand.
For open source communities, clarity and low admin burden matter a lot. The less time maintainers spend managing tools, the more time they can spend actually building and supporting their projects.

Transparency and predictable fundraising tools make a huge difference for smaller communities that don’t have dedicated operational support.
It’s always encouraging to see infrastructure around open source becoming more practical and sustainable, because long-term project health depends on more than just code contributions.
