Extinction Rebellion Gambia. We are the change makers.
The problems our world faces are huge, from poverty to climate change to global health epidemics. What if we could mobilise more people to dedicate more time on the job to making an impact? We believe this shift is essential in creating a more sustainable world.
Climate change is a global threat! The Gambia like any other country has been affected but no reasonable action has been taken to limit its effect. Therefore, the rebellion is formed to enlighten people about how climate change affects the environment.
This year, Extinction Rebellion Gambia plans to conduct various activities ranging from public Heading for Extinction talks, people’s assemblies, climate strikes, community outreach programs and school outreach programs. With these planned activities, we believe we can convince the general public to take action to avert climate change.
As we rebel, we need your support.

Sea level rise, sand mining and overfishing are a major threat to Gambia’s biodiversity. Why? Because The Gambia is primarily low-lying and a 1 m rise in sea level could potentially inundate over 8% of the country's land area. This includes over 61% of current mangroves, 33% of swamps, and over 20% of current lowland rice growing areas.
We are determined to stage a mega sensitization campaign to address these problems through an organised rebellion. The motive is not just to raise awareness but also to bring about positive attitudinal changes that will contribute meaningfully in our fight against climate change and global warming.
Many are of the myth that climate change is just a natural phenomenon and some associate it with beliefs from religious perspectives. This makes another challenge that XR Gambia is tackling through sensitization and mobilisation.
Part of the strategic plans for 2022 includes a resolve to work on XR Gambia`s already existing YouTube Channel. In this, much effort shall be made raising more awareness on ecological stories in the Gambia ranging from the rising seas, water pollution and crisis, dying mangroves and also the tendencies that come along with the changing climate.
