About
LIBERATION & REHABILITATION PROGRAM OF DEPRIVED WOMEN & CHILDREN IN PRISONS
- This open collective aims to help women and young children held-up in prisons, helpless and with no money to bail them out.
Our mission is twofold:
- To LIBERATE at least 1,000 women and children from their imprisonment.
- And to provide REHABILITATION with the resources and tools needed to rebuild their lives and secure a better future.
BACKGROUND:
WHAT KIND OF CRIMES ARE THEY HELD FOR:
CURRENT SCENARIO:
- These women, along with young kids (Some of them being just babies 3-6 months old), are put in jails on various petty cases.
- As per the laws prevailing in India, Mandatory Bail is automatically given to them with fines amounting to around USD 200 – USD 250.
- Their families are below the working class, and these fines are too high for them.
- And hence such women and children are left unattended, unclaimed, and behind bars for months together, waiting desperately for a ray of hope.
- Booked on false charges by their neighbors/employers/others,
- Booked on petty nuisances,
- Booked for begging in the streets,
- First Convicts, booked on petty crimes like pick-pocketing, but who are desirous to sincerely transform their lives.
- Work with the State Governments/Jail Superintendents/Concerned Authorities in identifying the women/Kids that need immediate help and rehabilitation.
- Pick all cases that already have completed mandatory terms, and for which already bail is issued, but unable to pay fines.
- Complete the legal paperwork, pay respective fines/bail amounts, and prepare for their release.
- Inform their families and ensure complete coordination is done appropriately.
- Schedule and execute their releases.
- Ensure they are safely reunited with their families.
- Provide clothing & food to meet their immediate needs.
- Admitting the Concerned Women & Children, and Orphans & Minors into the Government Rehabilitation Centers and Social Welfare Homes, in conjunction with the respective Government Departments and in direct coordination with the concerned authorities.
- Providing Self-Employment programs along with full support and guidance to those who want to start their earnings afresh in the right frame.
- Other activities include (but are not limited to) Counseling & Therapy, Educational Programs, Job Training & Placement Programs, Mentorship Programs, etc.
