About
Friends of Apache Cassandra
Disclaimers: This campaign was created by me, Melissa Logan, as an independent individual, not by the Apache Software Foundation (ASF) nor the Apache Cassandra project. I'm not representing the Foundation in any way in this campaign, nor does Apache endorse it. The ASF values community integrity and vendor independence very highly, and has a policy of not paying for work or development contributions. All its members are voluntary, me included. Any contributions I make will have to pass the usual Cassandra community approval process. If this campaign isn't funded, I'll continue participating in the Cassandra project in the same way as before.
We encourage you where possible to contribute to Apache Cassandra in the traditional ways, such as writing code or documentation, by creating issues, or by being involved in discussions. We also recommend that you consider sponsoring the ASF. This open collective also allows you to contribute to Cassandra community building and marketing in complementary ways.
This collective aims to support community and marketing activities related to the Cassandra project. This collective does accepts cash contributions and uses those to support the Cassandra community in an unofficial capacity. This is intended to augment the activities of the official project rather than overlap in any way. The collective may choose to use funds to:
This collective aims to support community and marketing activities related to the Cassandra project. This collective does accepts cash contributions and uses those to support the Cassandra community in an unofficial capacity. This is intended to augment the activities of the official project rather than overlap in any way. The collective may choose to use funds to:
- Create and distribute Cassandra swag at PMC-approved events (e.g. Town Halls, local meetups), as well as special swag boxes for Cassandra MVPs (pending PMC approval of that program).
- Support outreach activities such as sponsoring local events with food and beverage, or hosting educational events in cities which might not otherwise be visited by the popular conferences.
- Contribute funds to the Apache Cassandra community for social media advertising.
- Engage in other community building or advocacy efforts that benefit the Cassandra community as a whole.
As a general principle, we try to direct funds as best we can to meet the desires of contributors.
Disclaimer
Any collateral produced with the assistance of this collective must be submitted to the project in the normal way and are subject to normal community vetting.
How to Participate
As a general rule, if you want to be involved or submit an expense, please get in touch. We generally only accept expense submissions for previously agreed activities with a well-defined outcome.
