Third Space Fund

PROJECT

Supporting free to the public community groups that meet at New City Center.

About

Grapevine Collective exists to transform an underutilized church building (New City Center) into a vibrant hub of community organizing and activity. Part of this work has been making the space more financially accessible by adopting lower rates for using the building and a providing sliding-scale options upon request. Still, there are volunteer community groups which do tremendous good with virtually no operating budget. To support these causes, and the creation of volunteer run "third spaces," we operate this fund to provide assistance to groups which cannot meet the sliding scale minimum.

What is a "third space?"

By out definition, a third space is any place free to the public, with no expectation that attendees will become members of an organization. Food shares, community self-defense trainings, People's Assemblies are all examples of third space activities already happening at New City Center.

Who will this fund support?

This fund is intended for community groups using communal space at New City Center who cannot afford the sliding scale minimum rates. For a gathering to qualify for support from the Third Space Fund it must meet the Grapevine Collective's definition of a third space (free to the public, with no expectation of membership), have no operating budget allocated for programmed space use otherwise, and the gathering must include a call for free-will contribution to support the Grapevine Collective (multilingual signage provided).
