My name is Joe and I started r/GuyCry in mid-november of 2022 as an overwhelming response to a comment I made to a video on Reddit; a video that made me cry.
So many men came forth and said that the video also made them cry. And so I started the r/GuyCry subreddit. It functions as both a safe space where men know they won't be judged if they cry, as well as giving the world a look into the mind of men.
There's absolutely nothing wrong with crying. It allows us to be vulnerable. More importantly, if we can do it in our relationships, and our significant others - or are potential significant others - don't use our tears as a weapon against us, it's more likely that positive growth will occur within the relationship.
I'm not talking about just crying all the time. I'm talking about not being afraid to cry when the need arises. Many men believe that they will lose the respect of those around them, or that they may seem unable to be depended on when the going gets tough. Those are some incredibly toxic beliefs that affect all of their relationships across the board. So we're working on rewriting what it means - and how important it is - to be able to show our emotions; all of them.
At the time of this writing, the subreddit has been active for 17 days. In that time, it has drawn in a staggering number of members; 6,500. It is one of the fastest growing subreddits on Reddit currently. More importantly though, it is a subreddit that serves a purpose that people believe in. If you believe in it as well, please donate to this cause so that we can spread awareness to the four corners of the Earth. It's time we break down these barriers that potentially prevent healthy relationships, as well as reassure men everywhere, that it is, in fact, okay, for a guy, to cry.
