GWHS Staff Strike Fund
This strike fund would go towards GWHS staff who may need assistance in covering basic needs (rent, utilities, food, etc.) due to lost wages while on strike.
About
UPDATE (2/13): As of this morning, UESF and SFUSD has reached a tentative labor agreement! Donations will be disabled. Keep an eye out for an update on refunds once the agreement has been ratified.
San Francisco Unified School District and the United Educators of San Francisco have been unable to reach a new labor agreement after the previous agreement expired in June 2025. After having passed two strike votes with 99% and 97.6% of voting members voting yes respectively, and the publication of the neutral fact-finding report, UESF has announced that educators across the school district will be on strike starting on Monday, February 9th.
This emergency strike fund would be for GWHS's staff to assist or cover any basic needs during a strike. While all participating staff would be financially affected, classified staff, who are paid on an hourly basis rather than salaried, would be affected the most. Classified staff include paraeducators (classroom and special education aides), security, family liaisons, custodial, and the other countless support staff that ensure our schools are safe, clean, and have adequate supports for students and their learning environments.
If a negotiated deal were to be put in place before February 9th, avoiding the need for a strike, all contributed funds would be disbursed back to contributors.
This fund is set up and administered by the GWHS UBC and not the larger UESF organization. Questions about the fund, its transparency and policies, can be directed at [email protected].
Stand with GWHS staff as we push UESF to spend today's dollars on today's students!
Policies:
- This fund is administered as a mutual aid fund where donations will only be disbursed to GWHS staff. OpenCollective's donation page will contain a dashboard that transparently shows individual transactions. Any excess funds remaining after the strike will be disbursed back to donors pro-rata.
- Because this fund is managed without official UESF resources, donations are being held in a new and empty checkings account. For transparency and accountability, the account holder is Curtis Wang. Please reach out to him for any concerns about the strike fund.
- Contact info: [email protected] - (310) 618-4507
- Payout Policy: Payouts will be distributed to applicants per the payout and equity policy document. The purpose of the fund is to make up for lost wages. Payouts will be calculated proportionally to available funds, with classified employees having a payout modifier of 1.35x to adjust for a difference in salaries and “living wage gap.” Certificated staff will get a base modifier of 1.0x.
FAQs:
Can I claim this as a charitable donation with the standard deduction on my taxes?
- Because this fund is not connected to the formal UESF organization, there is no available 501(c)3 tax status or exemption that can be issued for your donation.
