HEALTH EDUCATION AND PREVENTION ON HYPERTENSION AND DIABETES AMONG ETHNIC MINORITY WOMEN IN A RELAXED ENVIRONMENT

DESCRIPTION  | Outline key details of the idea including background to the idea, why you think it’s needed, and what your objectives are
Hypertension also known as the silent killer is found to go undetected for a long period of time in individual and in most cases is detected when it has already begun to affect other organs of the body (Hence the nick name “silent killer”. The same applies to diabetes. This project is focused on ethnic minority women with children who due to several reasons, some of which are poverty, lack of childcare, unstable relationships, ignorance or even fear of the unknown and future do not pay attention to their health or neglect to see the GP to investigate symptoms they are experiencing.Carrying out this project is essential to promote the health of these individuals and that of their families as a result. It also provides the opportunity for these women who may not have had a day out to just have fun and relax, the opportunity to do so.I will also be providing each participant with free blood pressure monitoring equipment, which in combination with the information they will receive become a potent tool for early identification and prevention of ill health. My objective is to promote good health and healthy living among individuals and families in a relaxed, unpressurised and non-judgmental way.The choice of a quiet private garden/green location within Southwark London (not far from home for the participants) is meant to provide a relaxed and serene environment for these women who may have not had time to themselves without their children for a while, as I will also be providing them funds to arrange for childcare for the hours they will be away form home.
PROPOSAL OWNER/TEAM | Indicate who will be responsible for leading on the momentum of the proposal and why and who will be part of your team
I medical background and would be leading the team. I will have a female GP as a part of the team who will be delivering the health educational information and giving advice.

BENEFITS /OUTCOMES | Outline what are the benefits for the community of this project and how will you measure that it is making a difference to them
This project will benefit the community by providing the knowledge to help prevent illness and promote help. Also, these women will be empowered to information which they also can share among family and friends.Providing the participants with blood pressure machines to go home will help to ensure that they are able to monitor their blood pressure and seek early medical assistance when they notice and abnormally before it becomes critical.
RISKS AND DOWNSIDES  | Outline what you think could go wrong, or detail the project risks, and how you will reduce these.
One of the risks of this project is that of giving out non evidence based or inaccurate information. This risk has been eliminated by engaging the support of a qualified and practicing NHS GP, who is also an ethnic minority female with children and can relate with the stress of parenthood.
