About
This project idea was born out of the need to see that women from ethnic minority backgrounds are more conscious of their health and take appropriate action towards maintaining good health.
I observed that most women from ethnic minority back grounds pay more attention to work, family and running of the home than they do to their health.
Hypertension and diabetes are quite prevalent among the minority ethnic groups, and most do not find out about it until it has progressed to a more advanced stage of illness.
This project is aimed at making women more aware of hypertension and diabetes and equipping them following initial demonstration and health education with blood pressure monitors to take home and carrying on monitoring their blood pressure and having enough information to seek early appropriate medical help from the GP if they notice any abnormality.
Health Education and initial demonstration using equipment on each participant will be conducted by a qualified and practicing NHS GP.
