How we plan to spend money and who gets help
Published on August 18, 2021 by Lukasz Gornicki

We're getting signals from different communities that we should be more transparent on how donated money will be spent.

The situation is pretty sensitive, and we don't really know how many details we can share for the safety of the people we want to help.

At the moment, we are collecting money for 2 open-source contributors and their families. In total, it is 11 people that need help to move away.

- We are afraid to share what direction they want to escape
- We are afraid to share how are they going to escape and who is helping with it
- Money transfers to people that need help are done in the most legal way possible with the support of Open Collective

The main target of the funds is: getting out of the country and renting an apartment in a new place. At the moment, we estimate around 7-8k euro per contributor and their family.

We will donate all extra funds from this fundraiser to https://womenforafghanwomen.org/

Other related topics:
- We are in contact with different people from different countries to get help on getting Visa. We do not have contacts in Canada and UK so if you can help us here, please let us know,
- If you know other open-source contributors out there in Afghanistan that need similar help, get in touch with us,
- They will need employment in a new location. If you can easily offer a job/contract to an engineer, please contact us.
- If you know other contributors that need help, provide them with our Emails: [email protected] (Fran) and [email protected] (Lukasz).

Once the whole help-action is complete, we will definitely talk to involved people to publicly share their identity and story. I personally can't wait till all is over and I can meet them in person.
