An Important Update for Our Donors
Published on February 28, 2024 by Okichie Davis
Good afternoon,
A little over two hours ago, I was notified by the Open Collective Foundation (OCF)--the organization that serves as the fiscal sponsor for the the Hibiscus Rose Therapy Fund (HRTF), that they have made the decision to dissolve. You can read their announcement here. This news has been very unexpected and has thrown a bit of a wrench into the operations here at HRTF. I am sending this update to let you know what this change means for HRTF and you as a deeply appreciated donor.
Foremost, this change is not going to stop our life-saving work! Our Therapy Access Project continues to support our Black queer and trans community members in accessing trauma-informed care. Our Free Letter Writing Project remains open to new applications and ready to support! OCF's decision to dissolve simply means that I, as Program Director of HRTF, will be undertaking the important work of identifying a new fiscal sponsor for HRTF so that we can continue to do the work that we do. OCF will continue to host and disburse our funding through September 30th, 2024, after which we will transition to a new fiscal sponsor.
Secondly, as OCF undertakes the steps of dissolution, the last day that HRTF will be able to receive donations through OCF as fiscal sponsor will be March 15th, 2024. After this date, our ability to receive donations will be paused until we transition to our new fiscal sponsor. If you are a donor who has set up a recurring contribution, you will likely receive notification from OCF that this function will be suspended. Once our new fiscal sponsor has been identified, you will be able to continue donating and I certainly hope that you do!
As I mentioned, this news is still very fresh and there are many questions that OCF will likely answer for HRTF over the coming weeks. As these changes unfold, I will endeavor to pass any relevant information onto you. I pride myself on HRTF being an open and transparent community initiative and I remain grateful to you and all of our donors for your support over the past two years.
Stay tuned!
