About

In August 2022, Holton Pits was put up for sale by Fisher German. It is owned by CEMEX

Holton Pits Preservation Group was set up to prevent the 20 acre site of Holton Pits being sold and/or developed in a manner that will threaten the fragile biodiversity, and restrict access for the local community, who have been using the Pits for many decades for their recreation and well-being.

Our group is a grass roots one, born Sept 2022 when we heard that CEMEX proposed to sell the land. The project has successfully managed to list the site as an Asset of Community Value – halting a commercial sale for a period of 6 months from Nov 11, to give us time to raise the funds to buy it as a Community. The whole community is behind this project including Holton Parish Council. Part of this land is a Site of Special Scientific Interest. The whole site is a designated County Wildlife Site. We are in contact with CEMEX, the seller, who are keen for us, the community, to be a potential buyer.

In February, 2023 we became Holton Pits CIC as this was the most efficient way to set up a non-profit organisation which could collect funds to try to purchase the site before May 2023. Please support us if you can, time is running out!
