Progress Update for Version 5.0.0
Published on April 13, 2023 by Martin Mueller
Although it seems like a long time since we announced Version 5.0.0 on March 1, time has flown by. Today we can announce that we've made great progress towards version 5.0.0, and we're starting a feature freeze later this week.
While coding, we discovered some low hanging fruit, opportunities for new functionality/features that we couldn't pass up. The CHANGELOG on github lists the changes we have made so far.
The next step is to finalize the code and prepare the source files for the translators to complete their work. In this phase we will continue to test the new features and make sure that we have not introduced any new bugs.
Finally a little teaser: we have added a mirroring function in a new smart tool 😉.
Happy woodworking!

Wen wil it be possible that the program selects the most efficient available sheeted goods? Instead of having to select one of the possibilities your self?
Thanks
Thanks

Hi Ed,
If you mean "select between different standard sheet sizes and find the optimal combination for a given set of parts", then the answer is no. Doing this would require substantially more computation time, making the cutting diagrams even less responsive. I am also not convinced that this would be greatly increase efficiency in practice.

I only recently discovered Open CutList (on YouTube) and I love, Love, Love IT! This is an amazing tool. I'm an old dude and and thought I had to draw out my plywood size rectangles in SketchUp next to my design and then tediously layout my pieces on top of the rectangles to make my cut lists. That tedium is now and hopefully forever a thing of the past. This program is very intuitive and It was easy to learn. I love the new improvements that you are working on and I'm excited for Version 5.0. I am grateful for your wonderful product and I'm happy that I can make some small financial donations to that end.
I do have one question if you have time. Is there a way to Change the "Number" (Alphabetic Letters) that appear on the cut list diagrams and labels. I like the large letters but having non-matching parts with the same ID "number" (letter) is a bit confusing. I'm sure I have just not discovered how to overwrite the presets.
Thanks Again!

Hi Pete,
Thank you!
Please check: https://docs.opencutlist.org/features/parts/options#use-letters-to-enumerate-parts to see how you can change the numbering (by group, for the entire list). The Options on the Parts List is the place to configure how the list should be computed and displayed.
Addendum: Please tell me if you feel there is something missing in the documentation (yes, I know nobody likes to read documentation) and I will add it.

Please add an option under materials. It is about the possibility of entering prices for services such as cutting, i.e. if when planning the panel cutting, information about the cutting length is shown, you can add the possibility of entering prices for services of cutting, milling, drilling, etc.

Hi Andrey,
The new version will be released around May 15. We need to finalize translations and to send the source code to Trimble for signing.
