Feeling the Love at Love North Southwark
Published on May 1, 2021 by Rachel Bentley

It's been another busy month at the Love North Southwark Food Pantry. We've been doing a lot of thinking about a future space for the pantry. We are keen to find a space that will allow us to open the pantry more days a week and for longer hours, as well as providing space for advice and activities. We may have found a suitable spot - watch this space!

In the meantime, we wanted to share a few thank yous we've received that have warmed our souls. They've strengthened our resolve to keep doing all we can to support the food vulnerable households in Bermondsey and Rotherhithe:

"...a big thank you for all the lovely food packs you had provided over the last couple of months. At the start of the pandemic, the food packs had been most welcome as most residents were unable to go out to shop. Then and even now, they give the residents something positive to look forward to and also gives them something to chat to their neighbours about. Your kindness and support is most appreciated."

"The food pantry at Cherry Garden has been a godsend to my family. I have used it weekly since it opened, and it has made a big difference to us. Unfortunately last April during the COVID lockdown our circumstances changed and we now claim universal credit, although we have debts and commitments from before, so managing our reduced income has been very hard, with many months having nothing left to fall back on whilst waiting for next payment. Coming to the pantry is such a positive experience, from the volunteers, the organisation and the fact that I am paying for what I choose rather than a typical foodbank. I’m no longer sure that we could manage without using the pantry , and hope it is around to help myself and others for a long time to come."

"I've been visiting the Food Pantry for a few weeks now I must say that it's an absolute blessing the service they're providing to people on very low incomes i.e. (Government Benefits!)"

"I use their service when I'm in need of a boost towards the shopping I already have which isn't very much at times but with the generous service they provide (£5 for 15 items) you can't go wrong really, it enables me to eat very well for 2 weeks, sometimes even longer."

"Kathy, her Team of Lovely Helpers are "Angels wearing Jeans and a smile""

"I appreciate the wonderful work they do!  Caring enough to Help and Support others in need!"

We hope that those messages have warmed your souls too!  We'll keep supporting those in need, in our jeans and wearing our smiles!!
