January 2021
January 2021 hasn't been the easiest of months. Covid-19 is rampaging through the community and affected many of our volunteers and beneficiaries. The sadness and pain of this time is very much on our doorstep.
The weather has also been rather grim with a lot of rain. This caused a leak in the roof of the building where we store our food and supplies, resulting in us having to throw away some food and PPE.
Nonetheless, we managed to get the Food Pantry off the ground in the middle of the month. The aim of the Pantry is to de-stigmatise food poverty. We ask families to contribute a small amount, say £4.50 for £15.00 worth of food or household supplies. We rely on donations from Fareshare and supporters to subsidise the difference.
Through the Pantry and the weekly food parcels we served 352 households in Bermondsey, Rotherhithe and the Old Kent Road. We are looking forward to continuing this next month.
