Dear Money Pot contributors’ community,

Thank you for another great Money Pot year! 

With your contributions, this year we redistributed almost $150,000 to BIPOC organizers who are leading our DC social movement work. These organizers and leaders work across the movement spectrum: from protesting against police brutality to continuing the vital work of community care through the Mutual Aid groups started during the early stages of the pandemic.

With this year’s work, the Money Pot has moved a total of over $400,000 since 2020! 

Can you believe it! Incredible.

We consider it a huge accomplishment to move more than $100k per year within our movement community - all without a mediating funder and without nonprofit strings attached.

In addition to moving a huge amount of money to local BIPOC organizers, the Money Pot also made great progress nailing down our internal operations systems. We streamlined the core process of approving requests and moving money, which alleviated a lot of labor from our organizing team. 

Even though we are successfully moving a significant amount of money every year, the need among BIPOC organizers in DC still outpaces the money we have in the Pot each month. DC residents are facing increasing housing costs, outrageous inflation, fluctuating gas prices, and increasing uncertainty. 

As we turn toward 2023, our team wonders: how can we organize our community to gather more resources, so that we can fund our local BIPOC organizers with more abundance in the coming years?

And so, next year we will focus significant attention on increasing the flow of funds from the community to BIPOC organizers. 

As a starting place, we are offering a mini-workshop series for members of the contributor community. We will be convening a series of three virtual community meetings, with the goal of organizing the contributor community to generate ideas about how to increase the amount of money in the Pot.

 

The meetings will take place on three consecutive weeks this winter, each centered around a different question. Participants are free to join whatever session speaks most to them at the moment, or all of them! The sessions are:
