About

MacVim has been one of the best ways to use Vim as a native GUI app on macOS for years. While Vim is a good editor, it is frequently only used as part of a terminal. MacVim's goal has always been to integrate Vim as a native Mac application that integrates with the operating system, and packages Vim as a tool that respects Apple's human interface guidelines while respecting Vim's heritage and power.

There is still quite a bit of work to be done. First, both Vim and macOS are not static software, and MacVim will constantly need to be updated to integrate support for new Vim functionality, as well as supporting new releases of macOS and integrating with new features. There are also other GUI-specific features that are in the process of being implement, such as better input handling, rendering, scrolling and scrollbars, as well as better testing to help catch regressions before releases.

Supporting MacVim will help keep the project on track, and cover miscellaneous costs (such as Apple Developer Membership fee, maintaining the macvim.org domain, occasional hardware purchases for testing, purchasing of software for testing and evaluation).
