Manawaka Ao
Fiscal Host: Gift Collective
Supports collective care and healing spaces for communities that are often excluded and marginalised.

About
Originially a woman of Colour community that came together at the start of 2021 (during COVID-19) to support women from diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds in cultivating experiences that forge deeper connections to self, each other, and the histories of this land, manawaka Ao has evolved into providing spaces that support healing that serve systemically excluded communities. We have a particular emphasis on ethnic communities, Māori, and Pasific peoples here in Aotearoa.
Our primary goal
1. Fostering connection to our histories and ancestors.
2. Strengthening everyday solidarities, nurturing community care and wellbeing through healing experiences.
3. Engaging in our responsibilities and obligations to Tangata Whenua.

Manawaka Ao was a name gifted to us by our kaumatua Paa Riikau Terry-Karapa and recognises our various stories as people of the waka who have travelled to Aotearoa from various parts of the world with our gifts, strengths, mana and also challenges to make Aotearoa, New Zealand home. Our community recognises our responsibilities and obligations as Tauiwi of colour.
We show up in intentional and meaningful ways to be in relationship with each other, this land - Aotearoa and Tangata whenua through creative art experiences, education and community discussions that support healing, understanding, connection and growth.
