MapSwipe

Around the world, millions of individuals are affected by disasters, disease, and conflict. First responders working with these communities often have to cover large areas, but lack the geographical data necessary for an efficient, effective response.

MapSwipe is an open-source mobile app that is making humanitarian mapping around the world more coordinated and efficient.

On MapSwipe volunteers pinpoint where critical infrastructure and populations are located, allowing first responders to focus only on relevant areas with their activities. MapSwipe data can be used directly, but most of the time a more detailed mapping of the relevant features on OpenStreetMap is the next step.

MapSwipe is a volunteer-driven and community-led project to support the Missing Maps initiative. Core partner organisations of MapSwipe are the British Red Cross, Médecins Sans Frontières, HeiGit, Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team and the American Red Cross, but any organization or mapping community can request to use MapSwipe to help with their activities.

The MapSwipe app can be downloaded from the app store on your smartphone or tablet, or through our MapSwipe website. The source code of MapSwipe is available on GitHub, so if you have any suggestions to make it better? Feel free to contribute! We are also always looking for all kinds of people to join our team, so please drop us a line if you think you can help us out!
