Sponsors Update - May 2023
Published on June 7, 2023 by Ruth Cheesley

Hello awesome supporters of Mautic!

Another month has passed and here in the UK we are starting to see signs of summer at last! I hope that wherever you are in the world you are well.

I’m not sure that I can top the exciting news that we shared last month about Mautic becoming an independent open source project, but there are a few things that I’m looking forward to sharing with you all.

Open startup report #2

Firstly, I mentioned last month that we would be sharing a more in-depth overview of how things are going in our Open Startup reports.

You can find the second installment here and all relevant posts can be found using the tag view.  Is there anything that you would like to see in these reports? If so, just let me know!

The key highlights are:
  • Significant costs this month associated with becoming an independent open source project and an annual infrastructure contract renewal
  • Small reduction in income and some delayed income from GitHub Sponsors
  • Continued strong growth in contributions
  • Slight increase in download rates, but not significant at this time
  • A drop in active members on Slack, but substantial increases in other channels

It’s great to see the strong increase in contributions and particularly that we have new people helping us with things like testing features and bug fixes, and working on non-code related tasks.

Mautic Conference Global

Our main online conference of the year, Mautic Conference Global, is fast approaching!  If you haven’t got your tickets yet then please make sure to book them right away. If you are quick, our sponsors currently have a 10% discount code so check out their social media accounts and book today, as the codes expire at midnight.

We’ve got two packed days ahead of us, with the first day’s sessions in English and the second day featuring tracks in English, German, Portuguese and Spanish.

I’m really looking forward to learning and sharing with the whole community, and hope to see you there!  Get your tickets here.

I’d also like to raise awareness that our training sponsors Friendly are running a 4 hour training course on the 20th June, the day before the conference. It’s a hands-on training which will take you from having a website that’s not doing too well, to implementing Mautic with your very own instance, integrating it with your website, and using best practices to drive business growth.

It’s a great opportunity if you, or any of your team, are relatively new to Mautic and want to get a super-charged head start.

At $175 it’s a great price (including full access to both days of the conference), and all the funds raised are being donated to be ring-fenced for work on the GrapesJS Builder, so there will also be some innovation and bug fixes coming about directly as a result of attending the training session.  Get your ticket here but hurry as there’s only a few spaces left!

Governance model proposal

After much discussion and debate within the Governance Working Group channel on Slack about how to structure our governance as an independent project, we have an initial proposal which is open for review and discussion.

We’ve broken it out into separate threads for each section, to better facilitate discussions and debate.

Please take some time to review the main thread here, and the sub-threads which are linked. If you agree, remember to leave a positive comment because this is just as important as hearing from people who think something needs to be changed!

The threads will be open for discussion until the 23rd June, at which point they will close automatically and the Governance Working Group will prepare a draft proposal for formal adoption.

Mautic 5.0 alpha release

The much awaited release of Mautic 5, which has been one of the most substantial refactoring of Mautic since Mautic 3.0, is nearing completion. The freeze period has started and we are not accepting any more features into the milestone.

The team are working on the remaining few tasks which are required to implement support for PHP 8.1 and dealing with a couple of regressions that have been picked up in testing before we make an Alpha release in the coming weeks.

This will only be for people to use and test locally and it is expected that there will be bugs. It will also not include an upgrade path from Mautic 4 - that will come with later releases.

Following the Alpha release there will be a series of subsequent pre-releases for testing before we make a stable General Availability release.

We could not have got to this point without your support as sponsors, as substantial parts of this project were completed by contractors which were funded through your donations.

What’s coming up?

New governance model, Council elections

Next month we will be announcing, and hopefully adopting, the new governance model for the Mautic Project.

This will have some significant impacts as we are hoping to introduce a General Assembly of members who will have voting rights, and to elect a Community Council from within our membership.

If you haven’t already, please do give your thoughts on the proposal here.

If you want to play an active part in Mautic's future growth, maybe consider nominating yourself to stand as a Council Member when we open for nominations!

New corporate sponsorship tiers

We will also be announcing new corporate sponsorship tiers, giving businesses more benefits when they financially support the Mautic project. If you’d like to join our focus group and get a preview of the tiers to provide feedback, please email [email protected].

Mautic Developer Days community sprint

We will again be joining our friends in the Drupal community at Drupal Developer Days in Vienna next month.

We’ll be holding a Mautic training day and D/A/CH Meetup on July 19/20, with the main Community Sprint being on July 21/22.

If you’d like to know more and join us at the event, please check #community-sprint on Slack.

Thanks again for your continued support of Mautic - without you, none of this would be possible! 🙌🏻
