Modulo Update: Empowering Famlies and Expanding to customized K12 education
Published on December 21, 2022 by Manisha Snoyer

What did you accomplish during 2022? How did you use money?
In 2022, Modulo continued efforts to expand access to mastery-based free tutoring for K12 students, providing tutoring to over 1000 families through our platform masteryhour.org .

We doubled down on creating and publishing high qualtiy, peer-reviewed content on K12 curriculum, as well as meaningful information to help families customize their children's education.

We launched a newsletter on Substack "The Modulo Community" which now has
3,339
subscribers + a private slack community where families can get expert support around their child's education.

What challenges did you face during 2022? What did your Collective learn? How did you change or grow?

In 2022, our free tutoring platform experienced a steep incline in interest from families who wanted tutoring for their children, largely impacted by learning loss experienced post-pandemic and increased interest from school principals is sharing our platform with their communities. However, we experienced a decrease of interest in volunteer student tutors, something which seems to be symptomatic of a general trend in decreased engagement among college students at this time. We've tried to mitigate this by recruiting more high school students to volunteer and they've shown up in strong and creative ways.

What are your plans for 2023? Anything exciting coming up?
We've applied for a grant to help us create more content and enhance our SEO. We're hoping we can raise funds to grow our community to a million members!

What did you accomplish during 2023? How did you use money?
During 2023 our student volunteers continued to run Mastery Hour serving several dozen students.
What challenges did you face during 2023? What did your Collective learn? How did you change or grow?
During this time, we focused on maintaining the platform, rather than growth as we transitioned the leadership team. It has been very challenging to raise funding for this project but we continue to run it because it helps the students.
What are your plans for 2024? Anything exciting coming up?
In 2024, we will move to a new system of matching tutors individually rather than through zoom. Much of the success will depend on the energy and commitment of student volunteers.
