Fund For Ferry Lifts Off
Published on April 6, 2020 by Emma Abbott

Covid-19 Mutual Aid Ferry has launched an 'Open Collective' to support the parishioners of Ferry Ward during the Coronavirus/Covid-19 pandemic. Ferry Ward is one of around 60 Open Collectives, and is the first to launch in the north of England.

The Open Collective is a platform that has been built to help communities become more sustainable. Through this platform, we can:

1. support our neighbours in need financially during the Covid-19 outbreak, and

2. give financial back-up to all those incredible volunteers who are helping them.

If you’ve ever donated to a charity or sponsored someone through JustGiving, or have backed a Kickstarter project, then you’ll be familiar with the idea of giving to good causes online.

Open Collective Ferry Ward works in exactly the same way. You can donate a little or a lot to the Ferry Ward pot, knowing that every penny will go straight back to helping our neighbours and local communities.

Not only that, the fund goes one step further! It allows Ferry parishioners to submit expenses and be reimbursed for any money spent whilst helping others during the pandemic.

Expenses could be for some shopping (perhaps the person you’re helping doesn’t bank online). This takes away the worry volunteers have of being out of pocket or finding a safe payment method.

Expenses can be submitted for other items too, such as essential work supplies, such as PPE and healthcare equipment.

It might be that you’re running a service for people in need, such as a 'meals on wheels', and want to deliver food or source more supplies. You might need a bit of extra help to get your ideas and help moving...

During this time of unprecedented crisis, we believe the wellbeing of the people around us is paramount. That’s why we’ve been looking for ways to help protect our communities and rebuild some certainty.

ABOUT OPEN COLLECTIVE

We are the first Open Collective in the north of England and are proud to have been invited to sign up. We are in good company - one of nearly 60 others dedicated to providing support during the Covid-19 pandemic, in London, the south east and across the world. The platform has been developed to help communities become more sustainable.
