New Fiscal Sponsor and Updated Donation Information!
Published on May 21, 2024 by Eleanor

Dear Donors and Community Members,

Thank you so much for supporting North Brooklyn Mutual Aid! You’ve hopefully already received communications both from us and from Open Collective Foundation (OCF) regarding OCF’s decision to dissolve their operations earlier this year, impacting over 600 collectives like ours. OCF’s dissolution plans made it impossible for us to carry over any recurring donations from OCF to our new fiscal sponsor, and as a result of their dissolution, all of our recurring donations were automatically canceled. This will likely have a sizable impact on our financial viability going forward, though we’re happy to share that we have a new fiscal sponsor, Hack Club Bank.

You can make a one-time or monthly contribution on our donation page

As of today, our remaining balance is $9,000, and for each of the past four years, we’ve spent between $30,000-40,000 of community funds on groceries, baby supplies, period products, toiletries, and other essentials for neighbors; supported the ongoing operations and stocking of four community fridges in North Brooklyn; distributed hundreds of care kits to neighbors; collected community compost for over four years each week at McGolrick and Transmitter Parks (currently on-hiatus due to city budget cuts affecting our processing partners at Big Reuse); launched the stewardship of McCarren Park Demonstration Garden, now in its third growing season, alongside Grow NYC; and partnered with the North Brooklyn Open Streets coalition on a range of open space activities and clean-ups. Without an increase in community donations, we will spend down its remaining funds within approximately three months.

If you’d like to help get the word out and rebuild the base of support for NBkMA, please share this donate link.

In the coming days, we’re also launching a merch fundraiser! Stay tuned to our Instagram @nbkmutualaid for more updates.
