About

North Brooklyn Mutual Aid is a community group of neighbors helping neighbors and building a more sustainable, equitable community.

To date, we have coordinated hundreds of neighbors to deliver over 10,000 meals to families in need, delivered over 12,000 masks in partnership with Face Mask Aid, and maintain an up-to-date online directory of local aid information, essential businesses and services.

We also support a number of community initiatives, including:
  • North Brooklyn Compost Project: We’ve processed nearly 40,000 pounds of compost, and continue to collect composting on Sundays! (For more, follow @nbkcompost + @bkscrapshuttle)
  • Greenpoint Community Fridge and Cooper Park Fridge: Maintained entirely by volunteers, the Fridges have food for anyone who needs it — helping fight food insecurity and eliminate food waste in our community. (For more, follow @nbkfridges)
  • Hygiene Kits: 500 kits a month are distributed to support our unhoused neighbors — every kit includes items like hand sanitizer, soap, toothbrush and toothpaste, a mask, and more, along with a handwritten encouraging note. (For more, follow @hygienekitsnbk)
  • NBK Stewards: Help keep our parks clean! The stewards are leading park and open space cleanups in the neighborhood. (For more, follow @nbkstewards

And many more! To learn more about our community initiatives, check out our newsletter.
