Tri-Metal Recycling

PROJECT

Reclaim and recycle copper, aluminum, and iron, provide education in their use.

About

"That which cannot be repaired is broken already."

The Tri-Metal recycling project is an effort towards manufacturing supply chain sustainability.

Agreement with many neighbors on the topic of needing local industry and a way to train artisans identified the potential to remediate the old railway-adjacent sawmill into an a recycling industry that can demonstrate better material usage than depending on imports and long-distance logistics while providing trade-based education and employment opportunities in the local community.

We intend to use:
 - copper to teach small electronics and appliance repair (electric current safety, debugging, and soldering)
- aluminum to teach metallurgy basics and machining (heavy equipment & high temp forge / foundry safety, casting, milling)
- iron to teach intermediate metalworking topics (welding, alloys & finishing processes).

This project will fund the recycling, repair, and research innovation towards goals of reversing the industry's harmful externalities while cultivating the curiosity and shop capabilities of future generations.

Core goals:
- fiscal viability through local-first recycling of metal
- training artisans
- 10 year goal of transitioning remediated sawmill facility into publicly owned infrastructure

We intend to use the Marathon Methodology as our structured approach towards these goals of systemic, local-first change in manufacturing & supply chain logistics.
