Help us to support local groups and families 🙏
Published on July 10, 2020 by Charlie Watkinson

Hello everyone!

As some of you might know, over the past few months, we've been buying weekly food shops for WHYC thanks to your generous donations, grants and a few amazing volunteers who go to the cash and carry every week (and ZipCar for giving us vans for free!). This has gone a long way to helping to keep local families fed. So thank you to everyone who has donated and made this possible! We're really happy to say that as of this week we'll also be buying bulk food supplies for Refugee Solidarity, who support 23 families living locally.

We need your help to keep families fed

We have enough funds to do this during July, and to continue helping local residents with food and emergency gas and electricity, but we need your help to keep going through the Summer holidays. Here's what we're looking to raise:

  • £250 a week for food for Westminster House Youth Club who have over 200 local families as members
  • £100 a week for Refugee Solidarity who are supporting 23 local refugee families (we'd like to increase this amount if we get enough funds)

That's a little over £1400 a month to keep going with food purchase past July. We started this campaign yesterday and already have £128, but we still have a little way to go!

We appreciate not everyone can donate money, so it would be amazing if you could share this on your socials and with friendly and family.

About your Refugee Solidarity

Refugee Solidarity South East started as a WhatsApp group for people wanting to help support Lewisham’s refugee community at this difficult time. In the first two weeks we have grown to 500 members. We have sourced and delivered donations of laptops and phones to families in the area. We are now delivering food packages directly to families and individuals and distributing food through partner organisations Lewisham and Refugee Migrant Network, LewCAS, Southwark Refugee Day Centre and World for Hope. Also working with AFRIL, Feed the Hill, Lewisham Refugee Welcome, Ray Woolford Food bank, Nunhead Knocks, The Catford Community Fridge, Refugee Cafe and The Field/Pie and Mash Mutual Aid Project we are supporting relationships between organisations, community groups and individuals who want to help.

Thank you again for your continued support to everyone in Nunhead, Peckham and surrounding areas that have given their time, money, love and donations to our community the past 4 months. We wouldn't be here without your support!

Love,

Team Nunhead Knocks
