Winding down
Published on December 1, 2021 by Claire Sheppard

Hi there,

Thank you so much for all the support you've give your community by contributing to Nunhead Knocks over the last 18 months.

Unfortunately due to low volunteer levels we're closing down much of NK. We'll remain as a signposting organisation, we're still collecting for local foodbanks via our Donation Stations and we're still going to help anyone isolating via the website and Whatsapp groups.

But we've decided to spend the remaining funds on the WHYC and Rye HIll Tenants Christmas food appeals and a small amount on helping to set up and support food co-ops in SE15 and close the fundraising arm of the organisation.

Thank you for all you've done, please end any direct debits that you may have and if you still want to give, we'd recommend donating dircet to https://www.whyc.co.uk/ who do so much valuable work in our community.

Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart, you've done really good things for your neighbours!

Hi Claire, Through Nunhead Knocks I met 81 year old Audrey in Spring of 2020 when I started to do her weekly shopping and have been doing it every week for the last 20 months as well as occasional walks and coffees together and we’ve developed a firm friendship. It has been a great side effect ot of the pandemic as I’ve always felt empathy for people aging alone in London and now I am doing my bit to be part of a supportive community. We may be away for a month in April so I was hoping to find someone to handball her shopping/checking in to so I’m not sure if you have any contacts through NK that might have the time to get to know Audrey.  Also the first few months of her shopping went through open Collective but I never got reimbursed- I was to overwhelmed with my other responsibilities to dig up the receipts but Audrey paid OC for each shop until we just dealt directly with each other. Do I have any chance of recouping that money before NK shuts down as each receipt will be photographed and in my phone somewhere? I understand if it’s all too late. Thanks a lot xS

Hi Sonia, This is so lovely to read and yes of course we can sort some repayment out, do you want to drop me an email on [email protected] and we'll get it sorted. If there's anyway you can let us know a rough amount in the next day or two that would be great as it will effect how much we can spend for the xmas appeals. Also I'll hook you up with some help to cover Audrey while you are away. Am so glad volunteering brought you this friendship and I bet Audrey is too.
Thank you so so much x
