NUOWTR Mai Le Moana Trust aims to establish a Study Support Centre/Homework Club to help Year 1-8 students in Porirua East excel in literacy and numeracy. By integrating various subjects with a culturally responsive pedagogy, we seek to create an effective learning environment tailored to Maori and Pasifika students. Primary education has long been a focus, especially regarding literacy and numeracy levels. Despite ongoing efforts, many students still do not meet these requirements by the time they enter secondary school.
This issue, highlighted in 2016, remains relevant in 2024. While NUOWTR has previously supported local college students through our Homework Club, we recognize the need to extend this support to primary and intermediate students. By intervening early, we aim to better prepare these students before they transition to secondary education.
