About

Olamina Global Art Studio and Residency is an anti-capitalist artist residency and interdisciplinary art studio created by international artist and activist Nikesha Breeze, dedicated to providing accessible space, resources, education, rest and time to artists, activists, scholars, and creatives. Centering Black, Indigenous, QTBIPOC+, and all peoples of the global majority.

Mission Statement:
Our mission is to create a sustainable and post-capitalist living space that serves as a model for equitable community ownership and fosters healing and restorative practices for underserved artists, activists, cultural workers and their allies This includes QTBIPOC+, white working class, and all peoples of the global majority. The space will serve to uphold post-capitalist shared values, including practices that are fundamentally, post-transactional, anti-patriarchal, post-hierarchical, anti-colonialist, and anti-racist. Through our project we aim to break down inter-generational wealth and class inequalities while promoting a sense of collective care for the land and shared space. This project will contribute space for revolutionary, transformative change that moves beyond racial capitalism by fostering local economies based on solidarity and mutual aid.

Vision Statement:
Olamina Global Arts Residency is a destination for restorative practices and collective visioning. The space will be a gathering place for diasporic storytelling, mentorship, and fine craft.
As a postcapitalist studio and residency we seek to support and foster each other in growing our shared values. In the book, Postcapitalist Philanthropy, Alnoor Ladha and Lynn Murphy define some of the uniting values of postcapitalism to be, “reciprocity, altruism, cooperation, gratitude, gifting, regeneration, equity consciousness, communalism, shared governance and decision making, empathy, non-violence, interbeing and solidarity with all Life…. In short, Systems rooted in interconnected relationships and a broader honoring of Life, in all its diversity and mystery” We share these values and envision a growing community that can offer a living example of these principles at work.
