About
OpenFaaS - Serverless Functions Made Simple
OpenFaaS is an independent Open Source project which is built by developers for developers on GitHub.
What is Serverless?
Serverless should not be a mystery - it is an architectural pattern that means you can go to market from idea to product faster than ever before. At the same time you can worry less about the complex details of managing Kubernetes, containers and Dockerfiles, but leverage all the benefits of distributed computing either on-premise or in the cloud. OpenFaaS provides best-practice solutions (batteries-included) to all the common container problems including health checks, non-root users and built-in metrics through Prometheus. Prometheus is a CNCF project and drives auto-scaling for demand, even to zero and back again. You can use the CLI to build and deploy your functions - it's as easy as typing in "faas-cli up".
Built by community
The OpenFaaS community has grown from zero in December 2016 well over 1000 members in the Slack group, active users going to production and over 170 contributors. The #contributors channel in the Slack group is the most active of all and is full of ideas, collaboration and great examples of community spurring one-another along. Your support helps the community team to keep OpenFaaS independent - growing and delivering on the mission of Serverless Functions Made Simple.
