2022 Year End Update - Setting the stage to rock in 2023!
Published on December 31, 2022 by Gus Austin
OpenProducer spent the majority of 2022 on the slow transition from a one-person freelance agency to a nonprofit open-source service and community media organization. Check out the following accomplishments throughout this past year:
- Applied and approved for fiscal hosting with the Open Collective Foundation.
- Invited maintainers to our team from open-source projects we support and assessed their needs.
- Completed soft launch of our Community Media Pilot with current clients.
- Completed soft launch of our self-hosted Newspack platform and radio branch. We collaborated with several maintainers and contributors of the projects we’re using and including.
- Continued to explore collaboration and partnership opportunities with groups, organizations, and individuals in the Open Collective ecosystem.
How did your Collective use any money raised?
Aside from a small portion allocated to operations, such as website, promotion, planning, team building, and others, client services accounts for most of our revenue. Most of the money goes towards providing services.
What are your plans for 2023? Anything exciting coming up?
OpenProducer’s primary goal is to roll out what we’ve been working on over the past year and longer, which includes:
- Open-source release of our Community Media training program.
- Open-source release of our Newspack Radio platform and radio branch.
- Develop open-source tools/training/service offerings with AzuraCast, LibreTime, WordPress, Drupal, Kendra.io, and more.
- Solidify collaboration and partnership opportunities with groups, organizations, and individuals in the Open Collective ecosystem.
- More public announcements, press releases, and outward-facing communication.
For the most part, 2022 was all about setting the stage. 2023 is time to rock!
