About

Description:

There’s been a lot of talk about mesh networks lately, so we’re inviting Meshtastic to join us for a conversation! We’ll spend some time getting oriented on what Meshtastic is, what it enables, and why people use it. From there, we’ll zoom out to look at how it fits into the broader mesh networking landscape, hear about some real-world examples, and talk through what getting started actually looks like, including common hardware and setup paths.

Speaker bios:

Jonathan Bennett: Jonathan started his first business by flashing the Open Source OpenWRT firmware on consumer routers, and installing them for small businesses upgrading from DSL. He took that Open Source experience to the FLOSS Weekly podcast, which he co-hosted for years before taking over as the primary host in 2023, and continues to host today. During this time he also covered the security beat for Hackaday, writing the This Week in Security column from 2019 through 2025. Jonathan has been a Meshtastic contributor since 2023, and now leads the Meshtastic on native Linux project, as well as heading up the cryptography team. He’s also serving as the CEO of Meshtastic Solutions, the company formed to provide commercial support for Meshtastic.

Benjamin Meadors (thebentern): Ben works as a full stack web developer by day, bringing his professional software engineering experience to the open source world by night. His passion for hardware and networking led him to become a core Meshtastic contributor, where he has been the device firmware development lead for a number of years now. Beyond firmware, Ben also created and maintains the official web flasher tool that enables browser-based device firmware flashing. He also serves as the CTO for Meshtastic Solutions, bringing commercial support for Meshtastic to businesses.
