ICYMI: Temporary pause on outgoing payments due to Wise verification
Yesterday we shared that outgoing bank payments are temporarily on hold while our payment provider, Wise, completes a routine AML/KYC re-verification of Open Source Collective.

Free Security Keys
Thanks to a generous donation from Google — and following our recent security recommendations — we’re able to offer free Titan Security Keys (https://cloud.google.com/security/products/titan-security-key) to our hosted collectives so you can share them with your community.
Because we’ll be mailing these, shipping costs vary widely. We are limiting sending 10 or more keys to a single address. If shipping to your location turns out to be prohibitively expensive, we may not be able to fulfill the request.
If your collective would like keys, please email [email protected] with:
- your mailing address
- how many keys you’d like
Google Summer of Code:
The 2026 Google Summer of Code (GSoC) program is just around the corner. GSoC is a great way for new contributors to get involved, build skills, and collaborate with mentors across the open-source community.
Key dates to know:
- Jan 19 – Feb 3: Organizations can apply to be mentoring entities
- Mar 16 – Mar 31: Contributor applications are open
For awareness, OSC is a registered organization and is able to receive GSoC funding on behalf of participating projects.

Live Calls Returning in 2026
As we gear up for 2026, we’re exploring ways to bring more real-time connections back into our community. If you’ve been around for a while, you may remember that we previously hosted monthly community calls before shifting to these written updates. At the time, we heard that timezone challenges and language barriers made the calls difficult and many of you shared that written updates were easier to follow and revisit.
That said, having face time and shared virtual space is still valuable, so in 2026 we’re looking to reintroduce more live calls, with recordings available afterward when appropriate. We’ll still be doing these written updates, and we anticipate these calls will focus more on spotlighting open source projects and educational sessions as starting points.
And with that….
We’re kicking off this month, on Tuesday, December 23 (9am PT/12pm ET/5pm UTC/10:30pm ITC)!
We’ll be joined by Emma Irwin, who will introduce Open Source Wishlist: a community-driven effort to surface and map open source community infrastructure needs in a clear and actionable way. The project is designed to help maintainers and communities across the ecosystem articulate what kinds of support would genuinely make a difference, and to make those needs, along with the impact of meeting them, more visible to everyone. During this session, we'll hear from Emma about the project, current progress, and upcoming opportunities to get involved.
We hope to see you there! Please RSVP here for the link to attend: https://opencollective.com/opensource/events/open-source-spotlight-open-source-wishlist-39d54691
If you'd like to receive a calendar invite as well, please let us know at [email protected].
