October Update for OSC

📣 Announcements 📣

Free Security Keys

Thanks to a generous donation from Google — and following our recent security recommendations — we’re able to offer free Titan Security Keys (https://cloud.google.com/security/products/titan-security-key) to our hosted collectives so you can share them with your community.

Because we’ll be mailing these, shipping costs vary widely. We are limiting sending 10 or more keys to a single address. If shipping to your location turns out to be prohibitively expensive, we may not be able to fulfill the request.

If your collective would like keys, please email [email protected] with:
  • your mailing address
  • how many keys you’d like

Early Bird Tickets for FOSS Backstage

FOSS Backstage is coming up in March 2026 in Berlin, and early bird tickets are now available. We may be able to assist with ticket costs for those interested in attending (please note this applies to tickets only, not travel or lodging). You can learn more about FOSS Backstage here: https://26.foss-backstage.de/ and our conference attendance ticket benefit here: https://docs.oscollective.org/for-hosted-member-projects/conference-policy#for-attendees

End of Year Reminder and Suggestion to Send Update

As we approach the end of 2025, it’s a great time to use the Updates feature on the Open Collective platform to reconnect with your supporters. Share what you’ve accomplished this year, what you’re planning for 2026, or anything you’d like the community to know. Learn more about using Updates here: https://documentation.opencollective.com/advanced/keeping-your-community-updated/updates-and-contact#sending-updates

Update on Collective Outreach

We wanted to share an update on our recent outreach to hosted Collectives whose linked repositories were inactive, archived, empty, or missing an open source license in the root directory. ICYMI, here’s a link to an overview of what we’ve done so far, what happens next, and reminders for admins: https://opencollective.com/opensource/updates/osc-outreach-and-hosting-audit-findings-actions-and-next-steps

Funding Opportunity: Neon Sponsorship for Open Source Projects

Neon is currently sponsoring open source projects through their Neon Open Source Program, offering:
  • $5,000 in platform credits yearly
  • Payments through GitHub Sponsors
  • Promotional help

Their criteria is:
  1. Open Source - Your work must be open source and publicly available under a recognized open-source license. Developers should be able to self-host the software.
  2. Runs on Postgres - Open-source software that uses Postgres is an ideal fit for this program. This could be anything from using Postgres as a component in a larger stack to Postgres extensions.
  3. Using Neon - Provide documentation, CLI tools, and code examples that teach your users how to build with your software and Neon.

More information can be found here: https://neon.com/blog/neon-open-source-program

Who’s Hiring? An amazing opportunity to support Open Source

The Sovereign Tech Agency is looking for a new Head of Sovereign Tech Fund, the internationally recognised and referenced programme investing in critical software projects. Since its launch in 2022 STF has supported hundreds of critical open source projects, distributing tens of millions in financial support, some of which we accept for use by our member projects.

If you’re fluent in English and German, and interested to find out more, you can check out the role on STA’s website.
