About
Planta Go Lingo is a free, open-access platform that makes learning about plant diversity digital, engaging, and accessible. It helps people of all backgrounds, students, nature enthusiasts, and conservation practitioners, build solid plant identification skills and deepen their understanding of local flora.
Founded in 2020 as a small personal project, Planta Go Lingo has grown into a broadly used learning tool within the field botany community in Germany. By 2025 it supported 5000+ unique learners and it is increasingly used in educational settings, including university courses and school classes.
The platform combines an adaptive spaced-repetition system with gamified learning modes, such as classical image based quizzes and plant-name puzzles. Its volunteer curated image archive uses open-data sources like iNaturalist, [email protected], GBIF.org, which provide a rich visual foundation for species learning throughout the year.
Planta Go Lingo has been developed independently, community-inspired and without commercial interests. All contributions go directly into maintaining and improving the platform so it can continue to grow as an open, accessible, and collaborative resource for biodiversity education.
