Applying for fiscal sponsorship
In the last several months, we have had discussions at our meetups and on our Slack channel (#drupal-pdx on Drupal Slack) about who "owns" this group in the eyes of Meetup.com. The site is one of the key places we gain new members, and has some convenient tools for hosting and promoting our group. One of our members, Christefano Reyes, had been hosting it on his account. Recently some rumors about changes to Meetups pricing model have made us consider upgrading to a "pro" membership, which would allow us to access to the email addresses of our members.
I (Ryan Price) have also been discussing the possibility of creating an Open Collective Drupal module with Tim Lehnen from the Drupal Association and Gus Austin, so I wanted to have a Collective for our local meetup. I don't want to be personally financially responsible for any collected funds, so I have applied to be represented by the Open Source Collective, which is a non-profit 501(c)6 spinoff of the OpenCollective website you're viewing now. Ideally, our group would be a test subject for the integration between the DA websites and Open Collective, and we would help support Drupal projects and groups that want to use this site to raise funds to support open source.
We will continue to use groups.drupal.org and Meetup.com for the forseeable future. This page will help us track how we are spending money and who the money is coming from, and let people know how they can support our group.
