ATX Trans Eviction Prevention Fund

One time rental assistance for trans & gender nonconforming folks living in Austin TX who are facing eviction. Landlord does not need to have already filed, (hopefully we can prevent that), but proof of threat needs to be made available when applying.

According to the Eviction Lab's 2026 data, in the Austin area there have been 14,772 eviction filings in the last year, with a 32% increase in filings since 2024. In the past MONTH there have been 1,259 eviction filings. 

 

Despite the data not being collected by Eviction Lab, due to what we know about housing discrimination and homelessness rates amongst the trans community, we can predict that a disproportionate number of evictions have been filed against trans Austinites, especially Black and Indigenous people, with a particular concern for FSSWers given the current political climate.

Based on a study Queertopia x ECHO did of 100 trans* or gender nonconforming folks who have experienced homelessness in Travis County- the majority of participants had 3-5 separate instances of homelessness. Half of all respondents have had prior evictions. 75% lost familiar support after coming out.

Because of this, we want to do as much as we can to help the most vulnerable communities stay housed. Housing is a right all people deserve, and this fund helps us support that belief.
