What a year, 2023!
Published on December 13, 2023 by Janet Gunter

1. What did you accomplish during 2023? How did you use money?

This year we hosted Rethinking Econ101 - our first online course in the Rethinking Economics network. We had over 400 registrations, and roughly 60 people attended the live online sessions. Guest lecturers Ha-Joon Chang, Jayati Ghosh and Kate Raworth joined the course, bringing together some of the most exciting heterodox voices today.

We really appreciate the donations from participants - they are a measure of how many people got value out of the course. These funds are earmarked for activities supporting local groups in 2024, including some that have restarted with new energy and new local groups in formation sparked by the course!

2. What challenges did you face during 2023? What did your Collective learn? How did you change or grow?

We learned that there is a big appetite for critical economics education online! While we struggled to fully fund our work this year in the US, we’re hoping recently joining Open Collective Foundation - being able to receive tax-deductible donations in the US - can be a game-changer.

3. What are your plans for 2024? Anything exciting coming up?

Funding allowing, we’d like to host a gathering of US groups and provide opportunities for alumni of the course to become local organisers, gaining knowledge and skills. No matter what, we will continue to fund activities on US campuses - we hope some will participate in our global Climate Reparations Now campaign
