Request Details
There is so much information I can put here, so much backstory that lead up to me getting to this site and submitting a request for aid, but I guess it all boils down to me being absolutely desperate this month after several unforeseen expenses. When you come from a family with high medical expenses like I do, you may already find yourself living on the metaphorical edge, and any unforeseen curveball will throw you off, with that being the situation I am currently finding myself in. I have exhausted every single option I have, from mutual aid to family and friends to other resources, and find myself in a very peculiar situation where I can't get governmental support (at least not efficiently) because of all of the barriers to entry that don't account for peculiarities. As an example, I am legally separated, but because I have not been granted (nor can I afford) a legal divorce from my partner, even though I receive no financial support from them whatsoever, I don't qualify for unemployment insurance until I get that paperwork in. I feel like I have done everything in my power to not be in a financially precarious situation; I had the year's worth of savings experts recommend (until a short while ago), I never spent extravagantly nor lead an extravagant lifestyle, I made my coffee at home :). In fact, I often deprived myself of many of life's joys, and for what? In two months my family's house will be foreclosed on, and in a little while after that will be auctioned off. I have a family member in the hospital (the unforeseen expense) who is already diabetic and will no longer work post-hospitalization, depriving my household of a source of income. I have a water bill that hasn't been paid in a month and the notices of accrued interest and potential shut-off have started arriving. So in reality, the header for this expense request is misleading. It's not just medical expenses that are a pressing issue at this time, but those are the most life threatening. Two people in my household are diabetic, and with neither of us now employed, we have lost health insurance coverage and are patiently waiting to qualify under medicaid (and I likely won't qualify until the aforementioned paperwork comes through). Unfortunately, our medical conditions don't wait. In twelve days I have to get our next prescriptions, which will now include additional medications for my recently hospitalized family member, and I can't see a situation where I'll be able to afford them and am already panicking, with severe and documented mental health struggles as a result of the burden of coming to terms with my own mortality if I start to not only ration my own insulin, but also my family member's. I have woken up from various night terrors almost every day this week; I don't think I'm strong enough to deal with such extreme financial duress, I'm not cut out for it. Every medical professional warns against this, and it's strange to find myself having to make that decision because I simply can't afford... well, life. I think this was already too long of a post, and I'm not particularly sure if it qualifies under what sf mutual aid does, but I'm at the point of desperation where I really don't care and am trying everything under the sun, applying for any resource I can. If you did take the time to read this, thank you, I appreciate you.
