tl;dr
Creating a new non-profit organization is quite a bit of work, it seems ... 😅
Here are the main milestones during the past couple of months:
Here are the main milestones during the past couple of months:
- We held our first ever elections!
- The organization has been established in the Greek court (Πρωτοδικείο).
- This took around ~3 weeks.
- The organization is now also officially registered with the Greek Tax Office and we now have a VAT ID and online accounts for the online tax services.
- We are in the process of opening a bank account:
- we needed to look at available account options (and costs!) from different banks,
- we needed to get hold of quite a few backing documents to create the account - opening bank accounts for legal entities is more complicated than for individuals,
- we are now waiting for Piraeus bank's legal service to review the documents (1-2 weeks).
- We are looking into acquiring a mobile phone number for Software Makers - mostly to use for SMS 2FA and recovery codes where required in online accounts, etc.
- Our application for a google workspace account for non-profits was rejected - with no reason given... Still need to decide whether to continue pursuing that, or whether we'll switch to another service provider for:
- email hosting,
- shared drive,
- etc.
- We are still trying to figure out whether we are also required to register the new legal entity with the Region of Crete. Some conflicting opinions there and trouble getting a straight answer for the time being.
- We have a stamp! \o/
- All funds held in OpenCollective of SoCraTes Crete have now been paid out, so that we can move SoCraTes Crete away from the old fiscal host (Open Collective Europe) and to the new fiscal host: Software Makers !
- We are evaluating whether we'll use this OpenCollective page of Software Makers as our home page, or whether we'll switch to something else... Let us know what you think on Discord!
