About
Ōpōtiki Horizons Press is a rangatahi (youth) publishing company based in the small town of Ōpōtiki, New Zealand. This innovative venture is designed to empower young voices in the community, giving them a platform to share their stories, ideas, and perspectives.
Ōpōtiki Horizons Press operates with a strong kaupapa Māori foundation, ensuring that the cultural values and narratives of the local Māori community are central to its mission. The company focuses on nurturing the creative talents of rangatahi by providing them with the resources, mentorship, and opportunities needed to develop their writing and storytelling skills.
The press publishes a diverse range of works, including fiction, poetry, non-fiction, and cultural stories, all penned by local youth. By doing so, it not only amplifies young voices but also contributes to preserving and promoting the unique heritage and experiences of Ōpōtiki’s people.
In addition to publishing, Ōpōtiki Horizons Press offers workshops, writing retreats, and community events to further engage young writers and foster a supportive creative community. These initiatives help build confidence, hone skills, and create connections between rangatahi and the wider literary world.
Through its efforts, Ōpōtiki Horizons Press is more than just a publishing house; it’s a movement aimed at inspiring and elevating the next generation of storytellers, ensuring that their voices are heard both locally and beyond.
